Frequently Asked Questions

Communications Software Scripting

Both the RS-232 Serial Data Adapter and the MA-2 Modem Adapter allow the RFC-1/B to communicate via over a serial data link. This may seem old-fashioned in the Internet era but many transmitter sites do not have broadband access and, in fact, many do not even have land lines.

The RFC-1/B does not generate data at a high rate of speed so a low bandwidth phone line or wireless data service will typically suffice. A low bandwidth connection will be limited to text data transfers but for simple site logging chores this is perfectly reasonable.

In data operation the RFC-1/B operating protocol is the same as when it is controlled by telephone in voice mode. This makes it very easy to have most any popular communications software work as the software front end to collect data from an RFC-1/B.

Communications software packages are sophisticated and the scripting abilities are almost limitless. Scripting languages are typically very easy to work with but, as with any programming language, they can be intimidating upon first glance.

We offer sample scripts for communications software that can be used to collect data from the RFC-1/B. These scripts are offered as a courtesy. No warranty is stated or implied. You may use them at your own risk. No support is provided for these scripts. We are simply not equipped to handle support calls of this nature.

Scripts

The sample scripts will logon and request a set of readings from an RFC-1/B. Files are provided for both ProComm Plus/PC Anywhere and Telix. See the Links section to download the scripts.

Scripts are available in their native format or in Adobe Acrobat .pdf files. An Acrobat reader is required to read PDF files. Acrobat readers are available for several platforms and can be downloaded free of charge from the Adobe web site.

Scriptable Software

Sine Systems does not offer tech support for software. Sine Systems is not responsible for the behavior of the software or any possible loss of data that may result by use of this or any other software. This information is offered as a courtesy to our customers and the software authors.

ProComm Plus / PC Anywhere

ProComm Plus was originally distributed as shareware by Datastorm, Inc. It is now owned by Symantec and is not in active development. The same functionality is available in PC Anywhere. Contact Symantec for more information.

Telix

Telix is not in active development but is still available from the publisher. Contact deltaComm Development for more information.

Stand-Alone Software

GetTelemetry

GetTelemetry is a program that collects data from the RFC-1/B. This is an option for those who need basic data logging and are not interested in writing a terminal script.

Plus Sine

Plus Sine is a full-featured data collection, device programming and site management software package. This software is in active development. See the Links section for more information.
